The International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, reacted to Russia’s announcement that his prosecutor, Karim Khan, was wanted.

    .

The ICC statement notes that the court considers such measures unacceptable, therefore, it will continue to “strictly fulfill its legal mandate to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole.”

The ICC strongly supports its staff and officials and calls on all participating States and stakeholders of the Rome Statute to intensify their efforts to protect the court and its staff, and to ensure its ability to continue to fulfill its independent mandate.

Recall that on May 18, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs put on the wanted list the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Karim Khan, who issued a warrant for Putin’s arrest.

According to the information in the card, the ISS prosecutor is wanted under an article of the Criminal Code, however, it is not specified under which one.

In March, the Muscovy Investigative Committee announced that it had opened a criminal case against Khan, as well as judges Tomoko Akane (Japan), Rosario Salvatore Aitala (Italy) and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez (Costa Rica). The ICR saw in the actions of the representatives of the ISS, who issued a warrant for the arrest of Putin, the elements of a crime under the article “Bringing a clearly innocent person to criminal responsibility.”
