The G7 calls on China to maintain a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on territorial integrity and the principles and goals of the UN Charter.
The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have pressed Russia to stop its military aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukraine. This was stated in a communiqué issued on May 20 following the leaders’ talks at a meeting in Hiroshima, Japan.
“We call on China to maintain a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on territorial integrity and the principles and goals of the UN Charter, including through direct dialogue with Ukraine,” the statement said.
The G7 leaders said they are “ready to build constructive and stable relations with China, recognizing the importance of frank engagement.”
“Our political strategy is not aimed at hurting China, and we do not seek to hinder China’s economic growth and development. A growing China according to international rules will be in the interest of the whole world. We are not alienating or retreat into ourselves. At the same time, we recognize that “economic sustainability requires risk reduction and diversification. We will take steps individually and collectively to invest in our own economic activity. We will reduce overdependence on our critical supply chains,” the G7 said in a statement.
The leaders of the G7 countries said they would try to “solve the problems related to China’s non-market policies and practices that harm the world economy.”
“We will combat malicious activities such as illegal technology transfer or data disclosure. We will promote resilience against economic coercion. We also recognize the need to protect certain advanced technologies that could be used to threaten our national security without unduly restricting trade and investment.” , the statement said.
In addition, the leaders of the G7 countries stressed that they are seriously concerned about the situation in the East and South China Seas and strongly oppose any unilateral attempt to change the status quo through force or coercion.
“There is no change in the basic positions of the G7 members on Taiwan, including the one China policy. We call for a peaceful solution to the problems on both sides of the strait,” the leaders of the G7 countries said.
Remember, as US President Joseph Biden said, in 15 months, the unity of the G7 countries in Ukraine has become stronger than in 2022.
As reported, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived on a visit to Japan for the G7 summit.
