Now European countries aim to take action against Russia’s evasion of the introduced restrictive measures, explained Charles Michel.
The European Union in its sanctions policy is coming to the point where it will restrict the trade in Russian diamonds. This was said by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in a speech before the G7 summit in Japanese Hiroshima, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Friday, May 19th.
“Now we are committed to closing the loopholes and continuing to cut Russia off from critical supplies. We will limit trade in Russian diamonds. Russian diamonds will not last forever, and frankly and honestly We will explain why these sanctions are necessary and justified,” said the head of the European Council.
Michel reiterated the thesis that the EU will support Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
“We will continue to support Ukraine with strong military, political, humanitarian and financial assistance. The EU and its member states have already provided more than 70 billion euros in aid to Ukraine,” he said.
It will be remembered that on May 12, representatives of EU member states failed to agree on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. Another meeting is scheduled for next week.
