Three scientists from the Novosibirsk Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, who were involved in the creation of hypersonic aircraft, are suspected of treason.
On Tuesday, May 16, the staff of the institute published an open letter in which they announced the arrest of treason against the chief scientist, Valery Zvegintsev, who founded the high-velocity aerogasdynamics laboratory at the institute. This scientist has been under house arrest since April 7. This is reported by The Moscow Times.
And since the summer of 2022, his immediate supervisor Zvegintseva, director of the institute, Alexander Shiplyuk, has also been in the pre-trial detention center. Also last summer, the chief researcher, Anatoly Maslov, was arrested. The latter was suspected of transferring data related to hypersonic technologies to China. Both are suspected of high treason. According to the publication, Shiplyuk and Maslo have been engaged in hypersonic missiles for more than 10 years.
The Moscow Times writes that in the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, known for its strong potential in the physics and mathematics industry, 16 people were prosecuted.
Recall that on the night of May 16, Russia attacked Ukraine from the northern, southern and eastern directions with 18 missiles. Among them were six Kh-47 Kinzhal missiles, which were also successfully destroyed by Ukrainian air defense forces. Earlier, Russian propaganda stated that the “Dagger” seemed to be impossible to bring down. Even dictator Vladimir Putin personally stated this.
After that, the Russian Ministry of Defense decided to brag about the destruction of the Ukrainian Patriot air defense system by the “Dagger”. However, in the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this information was refuted and explained why this missile could not destroy the American system.
