Moscow has frozen the bank accounts of the Finnish diplomatic mission in the Russian Federation, and has not officially explained its decision.
Russia freezes Finnish embassy and consulate bank accounts without explanation. This is what Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said, Reuters reports.
“The accounts of the Finnish embassies were frozen in Russia, and now they cannot be used,” he said.
According to the Finnish Foreign Minister, the bank accounts of the diplomatic missions were frozen on April 27.
In early May, Finland sent messages to the Russian authorities asking them to ensure the operation of representative offices in Russia and to provide an official explanation of the reasons for the freeze, but so far it has not been received yet.
Currently, the Embassy of Finland in Moscow and the Consulate General in St. Petersburg operates in Russia. The Consulate General branch in Petrozavodsk and Murmansk was closed by the Finnish Foreign Ministry at the beginning of the year.
As reported, in Finland, in connection with EU sanctions, a land plot and a building of the Russian science and culture center in Helsinki were arrested.
Recall that on April 13, three letters with an unknown white powder were sent to the Finnish Embassy in Moscow.
