Over the past month, Russian troops have stepped up shelling in three border regions of Ukraine – Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy. This was announced on May 17 by Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar.
He noted that in the period from May 8 to May 16, the enemy made 162 shells in the indicated regions: 110 in Sumy, 29 in Chernihiv and 23 in Kharkiv regions.
“The enemy army is daily firing on the civilian population from various types of weapons and destroying civilian facilities – kindergartens, hospitals, schools. There are dead and wounded, including children . Russia conducts war without rules and systematically violates the standards of international humanitarian law,” stressed the deputy minister.
In addition, through artillery and air strikes in border areas, the Russian army is trying to keep the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their toes and prevent them from moving in other directions.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian military continues to strengthen the northern border: in the past ten days, new minefields have been created and thousands of meters of defensive trenches have been dug.
