Warsaw is ready to systematically transfer MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, President Duda said.
Poland has too few American F-16 fighters to discuss transferring them to Ukraine. This is what the President of the country Andrzej Duda said, reports Polskie Radio24.
“We have a relatively small number of F-16 aircraft. We are ready to support the process of training Ukrainian pilots – I talked about this with the Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak. However, the number of F-16 aircraft we do not allow us to speak now about the transfer of some of them to Ukraine,” said Duda.
At the same time, the Polish leader emphasized that Warsaw is ready to transfer almost all MiG-29 aircraft to Kyiv, except for those in NATO defense.
“There is a problem, because we have some MiGs that already work according to NATO standards and carry out the mission of Air Policing, so they serve to protect NATO countries,” he added.
According to open source, Poland has 48 F-16 fighters.
As you know, the German government allowed Poland to transfer the MiG-29 to Ukraine. The Polish Air Force has about a dozen of these aircraft.
Remember, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte are working to create an international coalition of fighter jets for Ukraine.
Ukraine hopes to receive around 40-50 F-16 fighters from Western partners and form three to four squadrons to protect the skies.
