The Russians are trying to delay the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, but this may be to Ukraine’s advantage.
Russia is launching large-scale airstrikes in Ukraine, hoping to force Kyiv to delay launching a counter-offensive. CNN reported this citing an American official with knowledge of the situation.
The publication notes that recently Russian troops began to spend more shells than usual. Thus, the enemy is trying to oversaturate and confuse the Ukrainian air defense.
The source of the publication noted that the Russian Federation carried out large-scale air attacks on Ukraine simultaneously in several directions. The invaders aimed at control centers in Kyiv and other important places.
Russia may have launched a large-scale attack in an attempt to force Ukraine to delay its long-awaited counteroffensive, the official said. But Ukraine was able to counter the attacks by intercepting a high percentage of missiles and drones with the help of layered air defenses provided by Western countries.
At the same time, it was noted that such attacks could benefit Ukraine, as Russia spends limited stocks of precision-guided projectiles.
It will be recalled that on May 16, Kyiv experienced the eighth air attack since the beginning of May. The Russians carried out a complex attack in different directions at the same time, using UAVs, cruise and ballistic missiles.
The enemy launched 18 missiles, six attack drones and three reconnaissance UAVs at Ukraine – all of them were shot down.
