This decision was announced by the press service of the Hungarian government in an email to Reuters.
Hungary does not agree that the European Union, along with other existing instruments, uses the European Peace Fund solely to support Ukraine, since this does not allow sufficient funds to be allocated to promote EU interests in other areas, the press service said.
The day before, the Italian news agency ANSA told a source that Hungary unexpectedly blocked the allocation of the eighth tranche of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros. Aid was to be allocated the following Monday.
Budapest, as reported by the agency, demanded guarantees that the money from the EPF would not be spent solely on the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.
The European Peace Fund was established in 2021. It is replenished by contributions from EU countries.
