A tranche of 500 million euros should be allocated on May 22, but Budapest has asked for a “guarantee” that the money will be allocated not only for Ukraine’s armament.
Hungary blocked on Monday, May 15, the allocation of the eighth tranche of funds from the European Peace Fund for the purchase of weapons intended for Ukraine. This was reported by the Italian news agency ANSA.
The media reported that the value of the tranche was 500 million euros. They were supposed to be released next Monday, May 22.
According to the agency, Budapest requested “guarantees” that the European Peace Fund will maintain its “global” vision for the future and will not be used exclusively to arm Ukraine.
The European Peace Fund reimburses member states for the money – usually 50%, but there is no fixed standard – that they gave to Ukraine for military equipment.
It should be remembered that Hungary banned the import of 25 types of products from Ukraine. The restrictions will last until at least June 30.
