Donaldson was also fined an unspecified amount for his actions at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. The decision was announced by Michael Hill, MLB’s vice president of field operations.
Donaldson chose to appeal the verdict. Shortly before announcing the suspension, the Yankees announced that Donaldson had entered the COVID-19 casualty list.
“MLB has completed the process of talking to the people involved in this incident. There is no question what is being said on the pitch. “Despite Mr. Donaldson’s intentions, the comments he made to Mr. Anderson were disrespectful and misjudgment, especially when viewed in the context of their past relationship,” Hill said in a statement.
“Also, what Mr. Donaldson said was a factor contributing to the incident between the cleaning of seats between teams and the requests for discipline,” he said.
White Sox field manager Ethan Man did not consider the penalty sufficient.
“It’s just the same. We all saw him hurt over a third last week, then this comment with a subsequent funny reason. What is the purpose or message of stopping a fight? It was incredibly frustrating and just a disappointment, ”the man tweeted.
The White Sox have a day off on Monday. They will no longer play for the Yankees this season.
The AL East New York leader is expected to open three straight games against Baltimore on Monday night and then travel to Tampi Bay for four group games starting Thursday.
Donaldson said he twice called Anderson “Jackie” – like Robinson, who met at the MLB color barrier in 1947 – in the Yankees’ 7-5 win on Saturday. As the tension intensified, the banks and bushes became empty.
Anderson, a top black baseball player and an all-star player, said it was a “disrespectful comment.” White Sox manager Tony La Rusa said he was racist and Anderson agreed.
“Basically, he’s trying to call me Jackie Robinson. For example,” What’s going on, Jackie? ” – Anderson said after Saturday’s game.
Donaldson, who is white, said he has used the term “Jack” in the past with Anderson, who said he sees himself as a potential modern-day Robinson in a 2019 interview with Sports Illustrated.
“I don’t mean any terms that I’m trying to be racist,” Donaldson said Saturday.
Anderson and Donaldson, the 2015 AL MVP, did not speak to the media on Sunday when the White Sox defeated a two-man player at Yankee Stadium. Through a spokesman for the Yankees, Donaldson said he did not speak to Anderson after the incident.
Anderson started the second game and angered fans, some shouting “Jackie” against him. He hit three miles in the eighth inning of Homer Victoria 5-0 Then he brought his finger to his lips in a quiet motion as he circled his butt.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he spoke to Donaldson after Saturday’s game and believed his player would explain why he pronounced “Jackie” – but he also said he thought Donaldson shouldn’t use the term.
“I think what happened between the two players and between the two teams in the last one or two weeks, I really understand how sensitive he’s going to be and I understand the reaction,” Bunn said. “I also understand that Josh really enjoyed his story and context. So I don’t think there is any malicious intent in this sense ”.
“But that’s just my opinion – (is) somewhere that shouldn’t go,” he said.
Donaldson repeatedly clashed with the White Sox over the weekend.
