The aggressor country created schemes to evade Western sanctions through buyers in the Middle East and Asia.
Spare parts for Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft manufacturers arrived in Russia last year to avoid sanctions. It was reported by the American edition of The New York Times.
The media added that the information was collected and analyzed by US trade data aggregator Import Genius, noting that tens of millions of dollars worth of aircraft parts have been shipped to Russian airlines under US sanctions, including the airlines. Such shipments became possible thanks to illegal methods created to avoid sanctions by moving goods through unofficial buyers, who are often found in the Middle East and Asia.
The said customs data covers more than 5,000 separate shipments of aircraft parts to Russia during eight months of 2022, ranging from simple propellers to a $290,000 Honeywell brand aircraft engine starter.
Most of the production is sent through countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, China and the Maldives. Some shipments, especially for Rossiya airline, are sent directly from the USA or European countries.
Note that negotiations on new sanctions against the Russian Federation may be delayed. Some EU countries consider the sanctions too lenient, while others fear damaging their international relations.
