In the near future, experts will continue to gradually increase the power of the reactor to 100%.
At the Belarusian nuclear power plant on Saturday, May 13, the first network connection of the second power unit took place. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus on Telegram.
“As part of the phase of the energy start-up program, the first integration into the network of the second BelNPP power unit took place,” the message said.
The first kilowatt-hours of electricity are supplied to the unified energy system.
The Ministry of Energy noted that the synchronization of the turbogenerator and the power system preceded the removal of the reactor plant from a critical state and to the minimum controllable power level with a further increase to 40%. In the near future, experts will continue to gradually increase the power of the reactor to 100%.
Then pilot operation is planned, which provides for test equipment and technological systems in different operating modes, including when the unit is disconnected from the network. At the same time, the start of commercial operation of the unit is scheduled for 2023.
The Belarusian NPP is located near the city of Astravets, Grodno region. It consists of two power units with a capacity of 1.2 GW each. Atombudexport, part of Rosatom Corporation, is the general contractor.
In November 2020, the first power unit of the nuclear power plant was included in the unified energy system of the country. In January 2021, the first power unit of the Belarusian NPP began operating at full capacity of 100%.
