Russian airline Azimuth will operate flights to Tbilisi on Superjet aircraft, which are not subject to Western sanctions.
Russian airline Azimuth and Georgian Georgian Airways plan to launch flights from Moscow to Tbilisi from next week. RosSMI will report it with reference to sources.
It was noted that Azimut can start flights from Vnukovo to Tbilisi from May 16, Georgian Airways – from May 18.
“Maybe not on the 18th, but a little while. Hopefully we will start flights in the next ten days,” Georgian Airlines President Tamaz Gaiashvili said.
Both carriers informed Tbilisi Airport about flights from Russia.
Azimuth plans to fly to Tbilisi six times a week. The airline will operate flights on Superjet aircraft owned by Russian leasing companies and not subject to sanctions that prohibit service at foreign airports.
It should be reminded that on May 10 it became known that Russia abolished the visa regime for citizens of Georgia, which has been effective since 2000. The ban on flights by Russian airlines and the sale of tours to Georgia, which introduced in 2019, has also been removed. The head of the Georgian Foreign Ministry congratulated the visa-free regime with Russia.
In turn, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called it “another provocation.”
