The Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced an attempt to “attack” the military guarding the state border by a truck driver allegedly using explosives. This was announced on May 12 by the press service of the department.
The incident allegedly took place last night on a part of the M-5 motorway.
“The driver of a heavy vehicle attempted to attack a group of servicemen participating in the strengthening of the State Border sections with an explosive device made of pyrotechnics. After the attack, the driver tried to escape ,” the ministry said.
According to the military, the vehicle was intercepted, and the 51-year-old driver was detained and handed over to law enforcement.
“None of the servicemen were injured. The driver’s actions show signs of extremism,” the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus stressed.
Earlier, Belarus’ KGB said a “group of people” had planned terrorist attacks in the country on May 9.
