The head of the WHO noted that, as in the case of the COVID-19 coronavirus, this does not mean that the work to fight the disease has been completed.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressedthat the World Health Organization, following the advice of the Monkeypox Emergency Commission in Humans, decided to no longer consider the disease a global public health emergency. He said this in a briefing on May 11.
According to him, as in the case of the COVID-19 coronavirus, this does not mean that the work to fight the disease is over. Monkeypox is still a serious problem.
Monkeypox is an infectious disease most prevalent in remote areas of Central and West Africa. Its symptoms are nausea, fever, rash, itching, and muscle pain.
As a reminder, the WHO has declared the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
