The reception was also attended by the former Secretary General of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (from the time of the GDR) Egon Krenz and the leaders of the extreme right party Alternative for Germany and the extreme left party Linke, who advocate lifting sanctions from Russia for its invasion of Ukraine and the genocide of Ukrainians.

On the same day that the former chancellor was received by Russian diplomats, innocent people in Ukraine were dying because of the war of aggression unleashed by Russia, Fry said.
Recall that on April 24, 2022, Schroeder said that he did not consider it right to distance himself from the war criminal Putin.
