The parade itself lasted about 45 minutes, and the passage of military equipment in the parade took less than 10 minutes in total.
Participation in the parade on Red Square in Moscow on May 9, 2023 was attended by fewer units of military equipment of the Russian Federation than in previous years, in particular, only one tank – from the Second World War. This was confirmed by the broadcast footage from the place of the event, published by Ukrayinska Pravda.
Radio Liberty, referring to the information of analyst Oliver Alexander, states that a total of only 51 pieces of equipment passed through Red Square this year.
Last year, when the parade was cut short before Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, 131 military vehicles took part in the parade. In 2021, there are 197 of them. The reduction compared to the previous year before the war was almost four times.
The parade itself lasted about 45 minutes, including a detour of the troops and a speech by the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin.
The duration of the parades in previous years was up to an hour and a half, but then the parade also included a wind segment, which was canceled this year.
Alexander, like many other commentators, noted that for the first time since 2007, modern tanks were not in the parade. The passage of technology was opened by a tank from the era of the Second World War T-34. Then light combat vehicles passed – Tigers, then Urals and Boomerang infantry fighting vehicles, Iskander missile system, S-400 and three intercontinental ballistic missiles Yars.
In total, it took less than 10 minutes for the military equipment to pass through the parade.
In recent years, the Russians have presented modern Armata tanks. At the same time, in the fighting in Ukraine, as many commentators have noted, this equipment either did not participate at all, or was present at the front in very limited quantities.
According to estimates of the Agency’s publication, about eight thousand people took part in the parade, this is the lowest number of participants since 2008, while the Russian Defense Ministry announced about 11 thousand participants. In 2022, 11,000 soldiers took part in the parade.

To recall, ISW believes that Vladimir Putin is trying to use the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow to demonstrate the influence of the Russian Federation in Central Asia.
