Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak expressedthat a HIMARS center will be established in Poland this year. He said this during a three-day visit to the Lockheed Martin defense plant in the United States.
“After talking with the management of Lockheed Martin, I heard assurances of a willingness to cooperate with the Polish defense industry, a readiness to strengthen the Polish defense industry, which is also beneficial for the United States, because it will increase it’s the size of the production. when it comes to HIMARS,” said Blaszczak.
According to him, the center will deal not only with the maintenance and production of HIMARS systems for the needs of Poles, but also other European countries, many of which are interested in purchasing a rocket artillery system.
Blaszczak added that later this year, the first launchers ordered in 2019 will be equipped with the 18th Mechanized Division, which is responsible for the defense of the Suwalski Isthmus.
According to the Polish Minister of Defense, negotiations for the purchase of 500 additional HIMARS systems by Poland, approved by the State Department and Congress, are underway.
Most of the launchers were planned to be installed on Polish Jelcz trucks.
Blaschak also discussed the possible production of the Javelin anti-tank system in the country.
In addition, he plans to meet with the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, as well as with the leadership of the Raytheon concern, which specializes in the production of Patriot air defense systems in particular.
Recall that the Pentagon ordered shells for HIMARS at a cost of $4.8 billion.
