China has refused to call Russia an aggressor, despite voting for a UN resolution last week.
China’s position on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine has not changed, despite the support of the resolution, in which Russia is called the aggressor. This was stated in the message of the Chinese mission to the UN, wrote the South China Morning Post.
“China’s position on the issue of Ukraine has not changed, and the voting position has nothing to do with a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two states (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese leader Xi Jinping – ed.) ,” the Chinese representative office commented on their vote.
They also added that they “voted the entire text of the resolution.”
“This cannot be considered an approval of this paragraph (where Russia is called the aggressor – ed.),” the office insisted.
Recall that last week China for the first time voted for a UN resolution in which Russia was called an aggressor, although earlier it abstained or voted against.
We are discussing a resolution on cooperation between the Organization and the Council of Europe. The document is accepted annually. The 2023 edition, in particular, refers to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and Georgia.
