There are states that are willing to do something more than offer an open door policy, the president said.
Ukraine understands that the country will not become a member of NATO during the war with Russia. But there needs to be a clear signal that this will happen after the battles. This is what President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference in The Hague on Thursday, May 4.
According to him, recently Ukraine has received positive messages from states that are ready to support our country and do something more than offering an open door policy.
“I think that our friends will support us. They will want to see us in NATO. But we are realists, we understand that we will not be in NATO during the war. But during the war, we want to receive a clear signal that after the war we will become members of NATO,” said the head of state.
Earlier, the media reported that the United States, Germany and Hungary oppose the intentions of other NATO member states to offer Ukraine a “road map” for membership in the Alliance at the July summit in Vilnius.
Recall that in September 2022, Ukraine applied for membership in NATO and it is expected that at the summit in Vilnius it will receive new assurances about joining the Alliance.
