Attacks on oil depots are likely to force the Russian Federation to change the fuel supply system in order to mitigate the consequences of such attacks.
This could include measures such as applying additional security measures at storage bases, as noted in the Russian Tuapse, or refocusing on the infrastructure of regions that are less threatened by attacks.
On May 4, British intelligence wrote about this in a regular report on the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The British recalled that on May 3 there was a fire at a Russian fuel depot on the Russian mainland in the Kerch Strait (near the Crimean bridge). It was struck by a likely drone strike.
British intelligence recalls that this follows a pattern of damage to Russian fuel depots since the beginning of the year, with fuel depots in occupied Ukraine and on the Russian-Ukrainian border remaining particularly vulnerable to attack.
The Russians will be forced to deploy additional security measures at fuel storage sites, as happened in Tuapse, or use infrastructure in safer regions.
