The German government has been blocking Rheinmetall’s application for the supply of 100 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine for more than a month.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his government are blocking the delivery of Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Ukraine. The Rheinmetall concern is ready to provide approximately one hundred such armored vehicles, but its application has not yet been considered. On Monday, May 23, Bild reports.
“The Scholz government’s hypocritical game about the alleged impossibility of providing Marder infantry vehicles to Ukraine is entering a new round,” the publication reports.
It was noted that we are talking about the German government’s refusal to transfer to Ukraine 32 BMP Marder, which is at the disposal of the German Ministry of Defense. After minor repairs, they can continue to be used.
The publication found that the German Federal Security Council had been blocking Rheinmetall’s application for the supply of 100 Marder BMP to Ukraine, which was at the manufacturer’s disposal, for more than a month. These machines can be put on alert for six weeks.
As the newspaper notes, if the German authorities approve the agreement between Rheinmetall and the Ukrainian government, which was discussed in March, the first BMP could go to Ukraine in the summer.
As reported in early May, Rheinmetall is almost ready to deliver the first Marder infantry fighting vehicle to Ukraine. However, this requires an appropriate decision of the country’s government.
It will be recalled that in April, Scholz was threatened with resignation for refusing to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine.
