The war can only be ended by the cessation of aggression by the Russian Federation, the President insisted.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would not send “any message” to Russia. The head of state said this on Wednesday, May 3, at a briefing after the meeting of the heads of state and government of Ukraine and the countries of Northern Europe in Helsinki, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“We have not sent any messages to Russia, we have not sent any messages to President Putin for a long time. We are fighting for our state and our land only, our land,” said Zelensky, who answering the question of what message he wants to send to Russia through this summit.
The President emphasized that “we do not care what happens in Russia to the citizens of Russia.”
“We are concerned about what is happening in Ukraine, which has been subjected to the occupation and aggression of Russia… The war can only end with the cessation of aggression by the Russian Federation,” Zelensky stressed.
The President also said that Ukraine should become the 33rd member of NATO. “We understand that in times of aggression it is impossible for Ukraine to join the Alliance, but there are no obstacles to make a political decision on the algorithm for our accession,” he said.
Finland used to be the 31st member of NATO. Negotiations are underway to join the Swedish Alliance.
Zelensky thanked the Nordic countries for their support. “Tanks and armored vehicles from Sweden are already saving lives in Ukraine,” he said and thanked the Danish Prime Minister for the speed in providing the weapons. According to the president, “weapons from Norway are a strong defense against evil states.” He also mentioned Iceland, which is “involved in the registry of damage caused by the invasion.”
