Turkey announced on May 5 a meeting of representatives of Russia and Ukraine through the mediation of Ankara on a grain agreement. The deputy defense ministers of the three countries will meet on Friday, May 5, in Istanbul to discuss the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
During the meeting, some issues will be discussed, starting with the grain initiative … In this regard, we can say that the parties warmly look at the continuation of the action (of the agreement – ed.). We want this initiative to be continued without any problems,” Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar was quoted as saying by the state-run Anadolu news agency.
The agreement, negotiated through the UN and Turkey last July, allows for the safe export of grain by the Black Sea that has been blocked in ports as a result of the Russian invasion.
Moscow has previously said it was “deadlocked” to extend the deal after May 18 because a list of its demands to ease the export of its own grain and fertilizer was not met.
