Clouds of dust, raised by strong winds, led to zero visibility on the track and caused dozens of accidents.
In the US state of Illinois, a storm sent clouds of dust over farmers’ fields and caused dozens of car accidents that killed at least six people. This was reported by the Associated Press on May 2.
According to the police, from 40 to 60 vehicles and several tractors were involved in the accident, of which two were burned.
“At least six people died, all in the northbound lane, and more than 30 people were taken to the hospital with injuries,” police said.
The cause of the accidents was a strong wind blowing dust from the agricultural land and leading to zero visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, wind speeds during the typhoon range from 56 to 74 km/h.
