Environmentalists are preparing a statement to the police about the revealed fact of illegal hunting.
On April 14, the Western Regional Directorate of the GNSU published on the official telegram channel and distributed to the media a video and information that a female bear with two cubs settled near the place of long-term duty of the border detachment of the Stuzhytsa department of the Chop detachment.
Vladislav Kamenets, a representative of the Uzhansky National Natural Park, that on April 16 of the same year, the headman of the village of Domashin, which is located near the Kostrinsky NDV of the Uzhansky National Park, told the head of the department and administration of the park that over the past two days, the villagers have been observing the appearance of a small bear cub without a bear.
It was decided to remove the bear cub in order to avoid its death.
Employees of the state protection department of the nature reserve fund immediately left for the village, took the bear cub to Bolshoy Berezny and transferred it under the care of the leading researcher of the park.
Subsequently, a decision was made to temporarily move the animal to the brown bear rehabilitation center in the Synevyr National Natural Park, since the bear cub is planned to be transferred to one of the European centers with experience in the rehabilitation of cubs with their subsequent return to the wild in the place of forced.
Such consent has already been obtained from the Greek NGO ΑΡΚΤΟΥΡΟΣ – ARCTUROS.
The animal is now in care at the Synevyr Brown Bear Rehabilitation Center.
When clarifying the circumstances of the incident, comparing the photo and video materials published by the GNSU and those available at the Uzhansky NPP, it was concluded that we were talking about the same bear cub.
Park staff interviewed the local population. As a result of the work carried out, information was obtained that gives reason to believe that the bear was killed during an illegal hunt organized and carried out by officials of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
Also, information was received about the possible involvement of officials of the border service of Ukraine in the organization and conduct of illegal hunting for the line of engineering structures on the lands of the natural reserve fund on an ongoing basis.
A few hours after the resonance caused by the photo and information, the GNSU reported that the photo shows a male bear that died of its own death, which the GNSU officers found in the forest. At the same time, they reported about an official investigation, for which the employees of the National Police and the Kamenitsky forestry were also called to the scene.
