Cyber experts blocked a powerful proxy center in Poltava. Russia used it for subversive activities against Ukraine. This was reported by the SBU on Monday, May 1.
“As a result of complex measures, the organizers of illegal activities were detained. They turned out to be two residents of Poltava and Kharkiv regions. The dealers set up an underground proxy center that worked as a VPN service and gave permission to subscribers from any country to impersonate Ukrainian mobile Internet users,” it said. in the message.
According to the SBU, the cost of such a “subscription” is approximately 2,500 Hryvnia per month. The defendants received hundreds of “orders” every day, and the money was received through illicit payment systems. At the same time, “regular” customers include citizens of the Russian Federation who, through a proxy center, tried to hide their IP addresses to access popular social networks.
“At the same time, the servers of the enemy” link “were on the territory of the aggressor country. This allowed the Russian special services to gain remote access to the Ukrainian Internet space, as well as to distribute the Kremlin narrative and fake information about the situation at the front, allegedly on behalf of the Ukrainian people,” the statement said. SBU.
During searches of the residences of the attackers, a special hardware complex, $ 120,000, half a kilogram of gold, mobile phones and draft records with evidence of illegal activity were found.
The organizer of the proxy center was notified of a suspicion under the article on illegal actions with transfer documents, payment cards and other means of access to bank accounts, electronic money, equipment for in their production (part 2 of article 200 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, the SBU blocked crypto wallets of “volunteers” of the Russian Federation. The arrest of funds was implemented thanks to the evidence base and assistance from foreign crypto companies.
The SBU also neutralized a bot farm in Kropyvnytskyi, which worked for the Russian special services.
