Ukrainian Su-25 aircraft are equipped with air-to-surface missiles called Zuni. The United States announced the transfer of unguided 127mm aircraft rockets in January 2023. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition of Defense Express on Monday, May 1.
The missiles were spotted in Ukraine with the Su-25 attack aircraft of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The development of the Zuni rocket began in the 1950s. It was put into service in 1957. The missile has a range of eight to nine kilometers. It can have a variety of warheads, including high-explosive fragmentation and armor-piercing, weighing from 20.7 to 25.6 kg.
The missile is unguided, however, in 2006, MBDA had an initiative project to create a Laser-Guided Zuni Rocket, comparable to the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) guidance system for the Hydra 70 unguided missiles. The latter is already used by APU fighters.
The Laser-Guided Zuni Rocket was successfully tested in 2009, including against moving targets.

Recall that in December last year, the American weapons manufacturer Lockheed Martin signed an agreement with the Israeli state company Rafael on the joint development of a high-energy laser combat system.
