The country leaders discussed cooperation in working with other international partners to consolidate their support for the Ukrainian peace formula. We also coordinated positions on the eve of important international events and agreed on the next concrete steps in the framework of the bilateral dialogue. This was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.
Zelensky thanked Macron for supporting Ukraine and told him about the situation at the front and the prospects for its development in May-June. He also informed the French leader about the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Separately, he focused on the priority needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The speed and specificity of the response is very important, it greatly enhances our capabilities. We appreciate France’s confirmation of providing our Armed Forces with a powerful armored package,” Zelensky stressed.
During the conversation, the parties paid special attention to the preparations for the NATO summit in Vilnius. It is there that strong and concrete decisions on security guarantees for Ukraine should be made this summer and the procedure for inviting it to the North Atlantic Alliance should be started.
Recall that in early April, French President Emmanuel Macron said that the time for negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation had not yet come, because “the weather is military now.” He noted that the Ukrainians continue to restrain the Russian invasion, and the partner countries are helping them in this.
