Spanish police dismantled a gang accused of stealing about two million euros in fake hotel vouchers that also intended to operate in Colombia and Peru.

Police said on Friday that eight people were detained in Spainafter an investigation that “dismantled a fraudulent service” with more than three hundred people deceived and that “it prevented them from opening new operations centers in Colombia and Peru.”

The police discovered that “they were going to open new offices in Colombia And Peru”following a search of the homes of those believed to be the leaders of the organization and its ‘operations center’ in Spain, as detailed in the statement.

Investigation

The investigation began in February 2022 after identifying travel agencies that called potential victims on the phone and offered them vouchers for forty nights in Hotels from different countries and made accruals during the call.

However, when they tried to redeem the voucher, they were only given the option to do so by that company’s booking phone number, but it did not involve any booking or management, so according to the note, they ended up giving up.

In addition, they tricked the victims into giving them not only their personal information, including their bank information, but under the false pretense of a gift, they also requested information about their friends, the minimum number of which is between 20 and 25, to also try deceive them, according to the police.
