Archbishop of San Francisco Bans Communion for Nancy Pelosi Over Her Stance on Abortion –

Contrary to Pope Francis, the Catholic Archbishop of San Francisco Salvatore Cordilleone announced on Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-calif.) May no longer accept the secret of the sacrament because of her commitment to supporting the right of all ‘ abortion.

In a public statement to Pelosi, Cordilleone said the legislature has not “denied your position on abortion … I inform you that you should not submit to Holy Communion and, if you do, you should not be allowed to participate in Holy Communion. “

“The ban will remain in effect until you publicly deny your defense of the legitimacy of abortion and acknowledge and accept the release of this grievous sin in the mystery of repentance,” added Cordilleone, one of the most conservative Catholic leaders in country.

After many attempts to talk to President Pelosi to help him understand the great evil he was committing, which had caused scandal, which put his own soul in danger, I decided that he should not receive Holy Communion. https://t.co/l7M85CyG86

Pelosi has not yet responded to the sacrament ban.

Jamie L. Manson, elected president of the Catholic Abortion Rights Group; Cordilleone’s statement to the Catholic news agency was condemned stating that he was “conducting a culture of war in which bishops have retreated.” He called on church leaders to “stop stigmatizing and start listening to pro-choice Catholics.”

Cordilleon told the “Gloria Purvy Podcast” on Friday that he took this action because of Pelosi’s support that “Roe’s decision has been transferred to federal law.” Pelosi said he would do so to protect reproductive rights, given Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s draft report, which would overturn the landmark 1973 decision against Rowe Wade.

Cordilleone said he saw Pelosi’s legislative action as “more extreme and aggressive” support for abortion rights. (The law passed in the Senate.)

Pope Francis warned in September last year that communion should not be political. Communion is the central sacrament and Mass of the Church, in which believers believe that the bread and wine are changed into the flesh and blood of Christ.

“What should a pastor do?” Francis said about the matter then Speaking to reporters. “Be a shepherd and do not turn away, judge or not. They must be shepherds in the style of God [of] Closeness, compassion and tenderness. “

Francis said that “he did not withhold the Eucharist” from anyone.

The pope responded to appeals from conservative Catholics at the time to refuse Communion to President Joe Biden because of his stance in supporting women’s reproductive rights.

A month later, Biden personally met the pope at the Vatican. Francis told him he was a “good Catholic” and he should “continue to receive communion,” Biden said.

Catholic lawmakers have often stressed that they are secular leaders and have no intention of imposing Vatican rules on American society.

When John F. Kennedy, the nation’s first Catholic president (second to Biden), ran, many voters feared he would receive orders from the pope AND no voters. This is a critical problem in a country whose constitution stipulates for the separation of church and state.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll released earlier this month found that 55% of Catholics in the U.S. want the Supreme Court to prove it against Ro Wade, even though Catholic teaching opposes abortion.
