As the press service of the SBU said on April 21, a suspect was reported to a serviceman, the former acting commander of one of the units of the Special Operations Forces, Roman Chervinsky.
The investigation is confident that his unauthorized actions led to rocket attacks by the enemy on the Kanatovo airfield in the Kirovograd region in the summer of 2022.
Suspicion was announced under Part 5 of Art. 426-1 (exceeding power or official authority by a military official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The SBU actually confirmed the story that was told in the UP earlier: the ex-intelligence officer, along with other persons, arbitrarily decided to take possession of the aircraft of the Russian aerospace forces. The Russian pilot seemed to agree to the proposal to go over to the side of Ukraine.
This “operation” was carried out despite the denial of the SBU and without the consent of the relevant state bodies. As a result, the enemy received information about the deployment of personnel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian aircraft at the Kanatovo airfield. This allowed Russia to bombard the airfield with missiles.
The Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense immediately expressed their comments on this plan; other state bodies did not agree on it. After all, the special operation was fraught with many risks. But some people decided to act on their own … I want to emphasize that no tricks will help to avoid responsibility. In my opinion, the scoundrel, whose actions led to the death of one Ukrainian military man and the wounding of seventeen more, should be punished, – stressed the head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk.
As a result of the missile attack, the commander of the military unit was killed and 17 Ukrainian defenders were injured. Also, two combat fighters of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed, and the runway and other equipment and buildings were significantly damaged.
The investigation is ongoing. Comprehensive measures are being taken to bring all those involved to justice.
