Ten members of one family were killed shots fired by gunmen this morning at a house in eastern South Africa, police said this Friday.
A South African Police Service (SAPS) statement confirms a “mass shooting that claimed the lives of ten family members in Pietermaritzburg”, the provincial capital KwaZulu-Natal.
“According to initial police reports, unknown gunmen broke into a house in Pietermaritzburg and ambushed the family. During the shootout, seven women and three men were mortally wounded,” SAPS explained.

The mayor of Msunduzi (the municipality that includes Pietermaritzburg) Mzimhulu Tebholla confirmed the event and assured that two people managed to survive.
“I think they may have the most information about what really happened because they were at the house when the incident happened. However, what we know so far is that three men entered the house and started shooting indiscriminately in connection with the reports. in a rape case,” Tebholla told local media.

This is the second shooting KwaZulu-Natal this week, after four more people were killed shot at a house in Kwamashu, north of the city of Durban, this Thursday.
