Conservative radio host Larry Elder announced this Thursday his intention to seek the Republican Party nomination for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

Elder made the statement during an interview on Fox News, in which he detailed that his biggest concern was crime and the absence of father figures in many homes in minority communities.

The presenter has already run in an election to take California governorship from Democrat Gavin Newsom in 2021, which he lost.

“USA is declining, but this decline is not inevitable, ”wrote Elder on Twitter following the announcement of his presidential candidacy.

The conservative will have to face several GOP heavyweights to win the nomination, including the former president. Donald Trump (2017-2021), who back in November announced his intention to run for a second term.

Also in the race will be former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who served as ambassador to the United Nations during Trump’s presidency and is the first high-profile conservative candidate to announce her intention to oppose the controversial ex-president.

Other conservative politicians hinted at their intention to run for the Republican Party, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis or former Vice President TrumpMike Pence, although at the moment no one has made a move.

This Thursday, The Washington Post reported that US President Joe Biden, who has been hinting for months that he will seek re-election in 2024, will formally announce his candidacy on Tuesday. (EFE)
