US President Joe Biden began a meeting Thursday with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, thanking him for his “outspoken” and “strong” defense of human rights in the Americas.
“I want to thank you for your commitment and your frank and determined defense of peace and human rights on the continent,” the US President said in press statements at the start of the meeting.

When the press came Biden And Petro they sat side by side on two chairs in the Oval Office facing the fireplace. The meeting began after 14:45 local time (18:45 Moscow time).
The President of the United States emphasized that he had long considered Colombia to be the “key pillar” of the hemisphere, and urged them to work “hard enough to achieve a unified and economically prosperous continent.”
“I know that we have a common fundamental element – protecting the dignity and rights of workers,” Biden said, citing drug trafficking and migration as other major areas of cooperation.
