The head of state said that no one would understand if Ukraine’s invitation to NATO was not announced at the Alliance summit in Vilnius.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, following talks with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, said he expects Ukraine to be officially invited to join the Alliance at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Zelensky said this in his evening video message on Thursday, April 20.
He emphasized that Ukraine did everything to ensure that its application to NATO was approved.
“Ukraine has done everything to ensure that our application is satisfied. Although it is difficult to say whose contribution to European Euro-Atlantic security is greater than our soldiers … Ukrainians and Ukrainian women who defend freedom in their life. Thanks to all the partners who support us here,” said Zelensky.
He also said that preparations are underway for the NATO summer summit.
“Neither the majority of Ukrainians, nor the majority of Europeans, nor the majority of inhabitants of the entire NATO space will understand the leaders of the Alliance, unless a worthy political invitation for Ukraine to Alliance was heard at this summit in Vilnius,” Zelensky emphasized.
The head of state also said that he discussed with the Secretary General of NATO the defense of Ukraine, “the defense of the entire international order based on rules,” and the defense of life. They also discussed upcoming meetings in the Ramstein format.
Recall that today Stoltenberg, while on a visit to Kyiv, said that Ukraine’s place belongs to NATO. In turn, Zelensky announced a new chapter in Ukraine’s relationship with NATO. According to him, four main issues were discussed with Stolteberg.
