This was announced on April 20 by Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lekke Rasmussen and J. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, according to Danish radio DRDK.
This is a big donation from the Danish side as part of a joint project with the Netherlands, where we are transferring 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This is in addition to the 100 Leopard 1 tanks that the government has already approved,” Rasmussen said.
Poulsen added that these 14 Leopard 2s will be delivered to Ukraine in early 2024. He hopes that by the end of this year at least 80 Leopard 1 tanks will arrive in Ukraine.
Recall that in January it became known that the Netherlands is considering the possibility of buying out for Ukraine 18 modern main battle tanks Leopard 2, which they rent from Germany. This was stated by Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
However, the following month, Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said that the tanks “are not included in the supply plan” because the German government decided not to transfer them to Ukraine.
The Netherlands remains the only country in the so-called “tank coalition” that does not transfer its tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The country undertook to transfer spare parts and ammunition for these machines.
