Seoul is not bypassing Kyiv’s humanitarian and financial support to maintain stable relations with Moscow.

The South Korean authorities do not provide weapons to Ukraine in order to maintain stable relations with the Russian Federation. This was announced in a briefing on April 20 by a senior official of the presidential administration, Yonhap reported.

“We are not doing this because, while South Korea actively supports the international community to protect the freedom of the Ukrainian people, we need to maintain strong relations with Russia,” he stressed.

According to the official, President Yun Sok-yeol’s statement about the possible supply of weapons to Kyiv is “hypothetical”.

The administration official added that there is no change in South Korea’s current support for Ukraine, but that the country’s domestic law does not prohibit military aid to a belligerent state.

Recall that the leader of South Korea in an interview with Reuters said that his country may go beyond humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine in the event of a situation “that the international community cannot tolerate.”

In response, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, threatened Seoul that Moscow would arm North Korea.
