Denmark and the Netherlands are preparing a batch of Leopard 2 for Ukraine

The Leopard 2 comes in addition to the donation of up to 100 Leopard 1 tanks that Denmark announced earlier.

Denmark and the Netherlands will transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine free of charge, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced, Danish public broadcaster DR reported on Thursday, April 20.

“This is a big help from the Danish side as part of a joint project with the Netherlands, where we are transferring 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine,” said Rasmussen.

A batch of Leopard 2s is expected to be ready for delivery in early 2024, Poulsen said.

He noted that these were not Danish tanks, but tanks “purchased in cooperation with the Netherlands.” Rasmussen called it “a very important contribution”.

According to Poulsen, at least 80 Leopard 1 tanks will arrive in Ukraine by the end of 2023. And the Leopard 2 batch is on top of them. In total, it is planned to transfer up to 100 Leopard 1 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Recall that the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine completed their training in Denmark on Caesar self-propelled guns. Overall, Copenhagen has already provided more than 830 million euros in support of the Ukrainian army.

It has also been reported that Denmark and Norway will transfer thousands of shells to Ukraine. This ammo is just right for Caesar’s self-propelled guns.
