Jake Tapper presses Dominion CEO: ‘Why not force’ Fox News to apologize on air?

CNN’s Jake Tapper quizzed Dominion Voting Systems CEO John Poulos on why Fox News wasn’t asked to apologize on air to “all those Americans who were fooled” in the giant 787, network’s $5 million as of Tuesday. (You can watch a moment at 11:00 in the clip below.)

The settlement, which barely made a splash among Fox News personalities, included a statement from the network in which Fox News nodded to “court rulings that some claims about Dominion are false” and noted that the settlement reflects FOX. continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards.”

Justin Nelson, Dominion’s lead attorney, told MSNBC’s Joy Reid that Dominion “would love to see the hosts take sides” on Fox News.

Tapper read the statement on his show Tuesday and clearly had a hard time enforcing Fox’s commitment to the “highest journalistic standards.”

He asked Poulos on Wednesday about Fox’s lack of apology in his statement.

“Why not force them to say to all those people, to all those deceived Americans, whose polls show that millions of them still believe this nonsense, why not force them to say, ‘They shouldn’t have to stay. It was fake. You were fooled, Joe Biden actually won. Dominion and Smartmatic and all that worked well? Why not force them to do it? Tapper asked.

“He said to us, ‘Are we going to give you another $200 million if you don’t make us do this?’ Because you could have made them do it.

Poulos responded that the defamation part of the law “isn’t really built around an apology,” but rather is built around awarding damages.

“And I can tell you that we had a company-wide call yesterday, and the unanimous consensus of our company is that if we could all go back in time and reclaim our company’s reputation, we would do it every time Poulos added.

“Exactly, exactly, but that’s my point,” said Tapper, who noted that the lie about Dominion cars that caused Donald Trump to lose the 2020 vote “has persisted.”
