Kasciunas noted that “we are talking about the largest test site in the region, so we can talk about a joint project.”
The head of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense of Lithuania, Laurynas Kasciunas, said that the committee is asking the Ministry of National Defense to examine the possibility of creating a joint military training area with Latvia. It was reported by Verslo žinios.
“Latvia is building a training area near the border with Lithuania, and we propose to consider whether it is possible to build it together so that we have a large training space. In fact, this will bring us to a full that’s a different level,” he said.
According to Kasciunas, “we are talking about the largest test site in the region, so we can talk about a joint project that will be very large in general.”
The head of the parliamentary committee added that the lack of polygons in the West is huge. He noted that if a common training area is created with Latvia, the NATO allies themselves will be interested in attending the training.
Earlier, Lithuania began providing a new military training area in Rudninkai, covering an area of approximately 17,000 hectares.
It will be recalled that the construction of three new military bases in Lithuania is underway, which will be used to accommodate its own forces and those of NATO allies located in Lithuania.
As reported, at the end of March, NATO exercises began in Lithuania.
