On Tuesday, Argentina’s justice system confirmed the transfer of eight medical professionals accused in the November 25, 2020 death of star Diego Maradona to oral trial, a source in the case said.
Judgment
The Appeals Chamber ruled that the neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, the psychiatrist Agustin Kosachova and the other six defendants will stand trial for “simple murder with possible intent” in a process that has not yet begun.
The defense appealed to the Court of Appeal to change the cover of the case to a lighter charge, but the Chamber approved the qualification of the crime, which carries a penalty of 8 to 25 years in prison.
In his motion to move the case to oral trial, Judge Orlando Diaz took a prosecution report that referred to the work of the medical team that treated Maradona as “reckless” and “inferior”.
