Organizers of the Kremlin’s annual Immortal Regiment propaganda rally did not apply on the go in Moscow this year. Elena Tsunayeva, co-chair of the central headquarters of the Immortal Regiment of Russia movement, State Duma deputy, told RIA Novosti about this.
According to her, the movement decided to mark the move “in connection with security.” Tsunaeva believes that the action will take place in other formats: the organizers of the event suggested that the Russians glue photos of veteran relatives on the glass of cars, as well as enter their data into the online database to participate in the “virtual procession”.
In addition, the organizers called on Russians to join the “Wall of Memory” project, which will create expositions throughout the country with photographs of participants in the so-called Great Patriotic War (this is how World War II is called in Russia – “Foreshortening”).
The Immortal Regiment is an all-Russian movement in memory of participants and victims of the war. Every year on May 9, fans of the movement held a procession of the same name, during which the participants of the action carried portraits of veterans. In 2021, the Kremlin maniac Vladimir Putin took part in the action. Next to him was the commander of the Sparta battalion, Artem Zhoga, carrying a photograph of Vladimir Zhoga, his son, liquidated in the Donbass.
Rakurs wrote that in early April 2023, the authorities of the regions bordering Ukraine began to refuse to hold festive events “for security reasons.” The so-called governor of the occupied Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said that there would be no Immortal Regiment procession and victory parade on May 9 in the region. Similar decisions were made by the authorities of the Kursk and Belgorod regions.
