Former President Donald Trump received one heck of an endorsement Monday from Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.).
“I am happy and honored to endorse Donald J. Chump for president in 2024,” Steube told Newsmax.
He bashed Trump’s name for the rest of the game, during which he praised Trump’s “American” policies and noted that the former president is “heavily supported in my district, widely supported in Florida.”
Steube, a staunch Trump ally, was among 147 congressional Republicans who voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election, even as crowds of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the president’s victory being certified Joe Biden.
Trump, who still wields considerable influence in the Republican base, announced his candidacy for president in November. He was indicted last month in a New York case centered on his role in a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels days before the 2016 election. He also faces numerous other investigations federal and state officials on other matters, including his reports, his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his handling of classified documents.
Last week, NBC News reported that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also expected to run in 2024, began calling Republican members of Florida’s congressional delegation, asking them to delay approval in an effort to avoid defections in his own state . . Steube would be among those who called.
Steube’s announcement brings Trump’s tally of Florida lawmakers to five; Representatives Byron Donalds, Anna Paulina Luna, Matt Gaetz and Cory Mills also supported her.
Twitter users couldn’t help but giggle at Steube’s blunder:
