Xiaomi and Realme now occupy the top two positions in the Russian market, Reuters said.

Chinese smartphones Xiaomi and Realme began to occupy more than 70% of the Russian market against the backdrop of the cessation of supplies of other brands after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters news agency on Monday, April 17.

The surge in smartphones in China comes after Samsung and Apple cut sales in Russia because of the war against Ukraine. Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and Realme now occupy the two leading positions in the Russian market.

The Russian Federation is becoming more dependent on China, with a sharp increase in the use of the yuan, increased energy supplies to the PRC and began selling more Chinese cars, media reports.

Russia is trying to abandon Western technology. The Kremlin has ordered officials involved in preparations for the 2024 presidential election to stop using iPhones over fears the devices could be vulnerable to Western intelligence agencies.

“Demand for brands from China in volume terms increased by 42% compared to last year, and their total share reached more than 70%,” said Russian retailers.

In addition, retailers began selling discounted smartphones in 2022, offering cheaper alternatives to Russian consumers as Western sanctions contributed to the economic collapse and lower wages.

Recall that due to the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the American technology company Nvidia completely left the Russian market.

Also, the Russian market left the building materials manufacturer Holcim and many other companies and brands.

The market for new luxury cars in Russia fell by 53%
