The European Union will facilitate the export of Ukrainian agricultural products because of the “corridors of solidarity” on the borders between Ukraine and the EU countries.
This was announced today, April 17, on his Twitter page by the EU High Representative Josep Borrell.
The effects of war affect us all. Russia has again blocked 50 ships carrying much-needed grain in the Black Sea. The EU supports the UN and will continue to promote exports through the EU’s solidarity pathways, which have brought 25 billion tons of grain to the world, Borrell stressed.
US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink also commented on Russia’s actions.
Now more than 50 ships are waiting in the Bosphorus for permission to go to Ukrainian ports to load grain, which will be used to feed the needy. Russia is trying to stifle the Ukrainian economy and slow down the flow of food instead of respecting the terms of the agreement, she stressed on her Twitter page.
She noted that a vital shipment of wheat was sent to Yemen from Ukraine last month. This shipment was funded by the US Agency for International Development, Spain and France.
This grain will feed 4 million people, demonstrating how the Black Sea Grain Initiative allows Ukrainian farmers to feed the world,” the ambassador stressed.
The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine notes that the Russian side at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul from April 10 unilaterally stopped the registration of ships representing Ukrainian ports for the formation of an inspection plan.
The Russians form their own inspection plan, choosing ships from the queue at their own discretion, which is completely contrary to the terms of the Initiative and unacceptable to Ukraine. As a result, for the second time in 9 months of work of the Grain Initiative, an inspection plan was not drawn up and not a single vessel was inspected. This jeopardizes the functioning of the Grain Initiative.
