Disney has released an unreleased teaser of the live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’ with new snippets and a new part of classic animation music
This Monday, the 17th, Disney published on its Twitter an unpublished teaser of the live-action of “The Little Mermaid”. The excerpt shows some previously unpublished scenes, as well as a new piece of the reprise of “Parte of Your World”, sung by Halle Bailey, who is in the role of the protagonist of the film. Despite all the trailers released so far featuring a new version of the classic song from the animation, Alan Menkenwho composed the music for the 1989 film and is behind the live-action soundtrack, made it clear that some of the original songs will be changed in the feature.
The composer revealed that the tracks “Poor Unfortunate Souls” (in Portuguese, “Corações Infelizes”) and “Kiss the Girl” (in Portuguese, “Beije a Moça”) are the songs that underwent changes. He even revealed why in an interview with Vanity Fair:
We have some revisions in ‘Poor Ufortunate Souls’, in verses that might imply that girls shouldn’t voice their opinion — even though, in the song, Ursula is clearly manipulating Ariel into giving up her voice. At the same time, in ‘Kiss the Girl,’ people became very sensitive to the idea that Prince Eric maybe forced his will on Ariel in some way.”
