Ukrainian ombudsman, Dmitry Lubinetss., assured today that the institution received dozens of videos of public executions at the hands of Russian Ukrainian prisoners of war who captured them, who in a number of cases were injured in various parts of the body.
“In the course of nine months, we received dozens of videos of public executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war at the hands of the Russian army,” he said in an interview with the Ukrainian publication Ukrainska Pravda Lubinets.
The Ukrainian ombudsman added that some of these executions involved the beheading of the victims, and in other cases, captured Ukrainian soldiers had body parts cut off, such as “ears, noses”, fragments of limbs, or “phalanxes of fingers.” Hands.
A senior Kiev official also said Ukrainian authorities had already identified some of the Russian military personnel who had committed these war crimes.
The Ombudsman believes that those who commit these atrocities and film them intend, on the one hand, to dehumanize Ukrainians and make Russian soldiers believe that they will suffer the same fate if they desert.
Another purpose of disseminating these materials was to intimidate Ukrainian soldiers.
Lubinets’ exposure comes days after international media circulated a video allegedly recorded last summer showing a Ukrainian soldier beheading his Russian captors alive with a knife.
The video sparked shock and outrage in Ukraine, whose authorities vowed to do everything possible to find and punish those responsible for the murder.
