Anita Anand, Minister of National Defense of Canada, announced this.
She promised that Canada would continue to support Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation.
All eight Leopard 2 battle tanks promised by Canada for Ukraine have arrived in Poland. We will continue to stand with Ukraine and provide the Ukrainians with the tools they need to fight and win this war,” Anand wrote.
In early February, the first Canadian Leopard 2A4 for Ukraine arrived in Poland. He was sent on a C-17 military transport aircraft from Halifax.
Canada also recently sent Ukraine a Bergepanzer 3 armored recovery vehicle to support these tanks.
Ukrainian Leopard 2 tankers are being trained in Poland as part of the UNIFIER training mission that launched Canada.
The military is teaching Ukrainian defenders the armored art of using tanks to make sure tankers are well prepared to defend the country with greater mobility and firepower.
The UNIFIER training mission of the Canadian Armed Forces began in 2015 in response to a request from the government of Ukraine for support from the Ukrainian Forces. Then the training mission helped to form and increase the capabilities of law enforcement agencies.
In 2022, Canada provided Ukraine with more than $5 billion in direct financial, military, humanitarian and immigration assistance. Instructors from Canada are present in Poland at the exercises of Ukrainian military personnel. In addition, the country intends to teach Ukrainians tactical medicine.
In January, they joined the tank coalition and promised four Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian army. Later it became known that they would give twice as much.
Canada also promised to transfer 200 Senator armored vehicles and Bergepanzer armored recovery vehicles to Ukraine.
